PLACES OF PEACEFUL SOLITUDE

FRIGID MOUNTAIN PEACE

by Gary Jacobson

When winter falls on the mountains
Blanketed in white sparkling rapture
You can taste the sleeping creations
Air shimmering sheer in blue light,
So sparkling clean and pure
Carried on winds that bite.

Silence rings clear in the fragile air.
The world stops
All care suddenly rare...
Suddenly comes a crashing crescendo
When an icicle drops
Then icy quiet surrounds us still
Frozen in place
In crackling frigid chill.
Deathly, peacefully, solemnly, still...

The world lies silent
So fragile crisp it could break.
Icy brisk fingers hint
Of the body toll cruel
Benevolent winter can take...

In your eye capture
In rapture
The land’s frozen bounty...
Howling winds coming down malevolently
Making a sometimes deadly place to be
Shrouded in hoarfrost
Making spirits indolent
Images of the heart of the land
Force you to see
A land attuned to harmonies reverent.

High atop a majestic God’s scenery...
Glory with shortened breath fill
See the winter untamed and free
Inspirations overflowing with thought till
Over the ramparts of the mind spill.

You can feel winter in your toes
Air so crisp
All the way up to brittle nose
By sparkling snow crystals kissed
so pure
Modest
Sedately demure

Unpretentious serenity
Comes in mountains invigorating
As brittle air.
A walk in its calm tranquillity
Curative,
Refreshing,
Restoring
Clear headed sanity
In chill air bracing,
Just short of a place you can’t endure.
In a lively life of sprightly rhythm
There glistens a besparkled splendor,
Living life to its maximum...
